Allan Fraser is an analytical chemist by profession and is a registered Professional Natural Scientist with the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions. He is a member of a number of professional organisations including; South African Chemical Institute, South African Institute of Assayers and Analysts, the Geological Society of South Africa and the Mineralogical Society of America.

During his early career he gained experience as a chemical analyst and applied researcher at JCI and Matthey Rustenburg Refiners and later as laboratory manager at Sandvik Hard Materials. In 1991 Allan joined LECO Africa, moving into a sales position and specialising in instrumental elemental analysis. He held various positions at LECO including group manager sales and then group manager for the company’s mass spectrometry range of instruments. In 2001 Allan joined Philips Analytical as General Manager of their South African subsidiary and was later made a Director when Philips Analytical was purchased by a UK investor, renaming the company, Panalytical. Allan served on the board of directors of Panalytical (Pty) Ltd for 6 years and after a period with SGS as Operations Manager of 3 of their laboratory sites, started his own consulting company. His consulting business focuses on on-site training of laboratory personnel and providing expertise in terms of analytical development work, consulting and laboratory technical audits. Some of the companies he has done consulting work for includes, Anglo Coal, Anglo Base Metals, Assmang, Associated Additives, Afrisam, BHP Billiton, Cimpor, Clarity Minerals, Exxaro, FOSKOR, Huntsman Tioxide, iDwala Lime, Rand Carbide, Rio Tinto, SAPPI and SABS. His areas of specialisation in analytical science are method development and statistical method validation of analytical methods. In 2008 Allan graduated from The People Business Leadership Coaching Academy and based on his business and coaching experience to date, he qualifies as an Executive Personal and Leadership Coach. Allan is editor of the South African Lapidary magazine, the official publication of the Federation of Southern African Gem and Mineralogical Societies and is chairman of the Witwatersrand Gem and Mineral club. In 2010 Allan chaired and organised the 3^rd southern African Mineral Symposium, held at the Council for Geoscience.
